How the word scrambler works

Shuffle the interior letters of every word while keeping the first and last letter in place — the classic "typoglycemia" effect.

How the scrambling works

For each word, the first and last letters stay put and every letter between them is shuffled into a random new order. This is the effect behind the popular claim that a word stays readable as long as its first and last letters are correct.

How to use it

  • Type or paste text.
  • Use "Scramble again" to re-roll a fresh random order for the same text.
  • Copy the result once you're happy with it.

What stays unchanged

Words of three letters or fewer are left exactly as typed, since there's nothing meaningful to shuffle between a single interior letter (or none at all). Spaces, punctuation, digits, and any non-letter characters are also left untouched.

FAQ

Why do short words stay the same?

Words of 3 letters or fewer have no more than one letter that could move between the fixed first and last letter, so scrambling them wouldn't change anything meaningful.

Is the scramble the same every time?

No, it's random. Use "Scramble again" to get a different shuffle of the same text.

Does it scramble punctuation or numbers?

No, only consecutive letters are scrambled; everything else in the text stays exactly where it is.
