Material cost and slicer waste margin
Filament cost is calculated by dividing the spool purchase price by its total weight in grams (e.g. $20 for a 1,000 g spool = $0.02/g). Always add a waste allowance (typically 5% to 10%) on top of the slicer's estimated model weight to cover purge lines, prime towers (especially for multi-color prints), support structures, and unusable spool remnants.
Machine depreciation and hourly wear rate
