Scaled ingredients

Only the leading quantity of each line is scaled — units and ingredient names are left as-is.

How to scale a recipe

Enter a recipe's ingredients with their original serving count, then a target serving count, to scale every quantity automatically.

How scaling works

Only the number at the start of each line is scaled — the unit and ingredient name are left exactly as typed. Lines with no leading number, like a section heading, pass through unchanged.

Tips for best results

  • Put one ingredient per line, with its quantity first.
  • Both comma and dot decimals are supported and preserved in the output.

Worked example

Scaling a 4-serving recipe to 8 servings doubles every quantity: 200g flour becomes 400g, and 1.5 cups sugar becomes 3 cups.

Calculation notes

All math runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

FAQ

Does it understand fractions like 1/2?

Not yet — enter quantities as decimals (0.5 instead of 1/2) for them to scale correctly.

What happens to a line with no quantity?

It's left unchanged, which is useful for section headings like "For the sauce:".

Can I scale down as well as up?

Yes — enter a target serving count lower than the original to scale every quantity down proportionally.
