What is Running Pace Calculator?
ProntoUso's Running Pace Calculator calculates pace (min/km and min/mi), total duration, speed (km/h and mph), and distance for runners. Includes quick presets for 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon, plus split tables and equivalent pace projections.
How to calculate running pace, finish times, and mile/km splits
Learn how to switch between calculation modes to determine your min/km or min/mi pace, predict race finish times, and analyze cumulative split checkpoints.
Three calculation modes
In 'Calculate pace' mode, enter distance and total duration to find your exact pace and average speed. In 'Calculate time' mode, set distance and target pace to estimate your finish time. In 'Calculate distance' mode, input duration and pace to see how far you can run.
Full support for kilometers and miles
The tool accepts inputs in kilometers (km) or miles (mi). Switching measurement units instantly converts all equivalent metrics: pace in min/km and min/mi, as well as speed in km/h and mph (using the exact conversion factor of 1 mile = 1.609344 km).
Race distance presets and equivalent race times
Quick-preset buttons fill in standard race distances: 1 km, 5 km, 10 km, Half Marathon (21.0975 km), and Marathon (42.195 km). The equivalence table projects what finish time that same pace would yield across all classic race distances.
Cumulative split table checkpoints
To assist race planning, the tool generates a step-by-step split table showing cumulative time checkpoints. Runs up to 10 km split every 1 km; 10 km to 25 km runs split every 5 km; longer distances split every 10 km for clear readability.
How to use it
- Select what you want to calculate at the top: Pace, Time, or Distance.
- Use quick presets (5K, 10K, Half, Marathon) or type a custom distance.
- Adjust hours, minutes, and seconds using the stepper controls.
- Choose your preferred unit (km or miles) for automatic conversion.
- Review instant results, split checkpoints, and equivalent race time projections.
Instant client-side calculation
All pace, time, and distance math runs locally in your browser. No workout inputs or timestamps are sent to external servers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between pace (min/km or min/mi) and speed (km/h or mph)?
Pace measures the time needed to cover a unit distance (e.g., 5:00 min/km means taking 5 minutes per kilometer). Speed measures the distance covered in one hour (e.g., 5:00 min/km equals 12 km/h). To convert pace to speed, divide 60 minutes by the pace in minutes.
Does the calculator support runs measured in miles?
Yes. You can select 'mi' for distance and pace units. The calculator computes your pace in min/mi and speed in mph while simultaneously displaying equivalent min/km and km/h values.
How do the split table intervals work?
The tool dynamically adjusts split checkpoint intervals to keep tables readable: every 1 km for runs up to 10 km; every 5 km for runs between 10 km and 25 km; and every 10 km for longer runs, always concluding with the exact final race distance.
Do equivalent race times guarantee I will hit that time in a marathon?
No. The equivalence table is a mathematical projection assuming you maintain the exact same average pace. Longer events like marathons involve fatigue, fueling, and endurance factors that usually require specific training.
How should I enter time for a run under one hour?
Leave the Hours field set to 0 and enter your duration using only Minutes and Seconds (for example, 0 hours, 25 minutes, and 30 seconds).
Is my workout data saved on ProntoUso servers?
No. All calculations are executed strictly inside your web browser; no workout logs or inputs are transmitted or stored remotely.
